My camera should NOT vibrate like a cell phone! (2010-07-27)
I bought this camera and was pleased with the Sony name and good Amazon reviews. This weekend, when taking photos, the camera started vibrating...just like a cell phone. First, I was incredulous. I've never seen a camera behave in this manner. I removed the battery and reinstalled; the problem continued. Photos were impossible to take as the picture on the screen was also vibrating and it was impossible to hold the camera still.
I contacted Sony after doing research on the web and learning this had been a major issue with the DSC T20 models which Sony will still repair, free of charge, until July 2011. Contacting Customer service, via email, was NO HELP whatsoever. They offered enlightening advice like, "Hold the camera with two hands.!!!!" I finally tried live chat and had no better luck. I was told this issue has never been reported so there will be no assistance from Sony.
If earlier cameras in the cybershot world had this issue, I'm not surprised to find it in a later model. I will continue to contact Sony in my attempts to have them address this issue. Our daughter in law owns the same camera and has had THE SAME ISSUE. Camera vibration is the result of a design flaw Sony will not currently admit exists!
For that reason, I suggest STAYING AWAY from this camera.
A quick view (2010-07-18)
I had this camera for about a year before someone stole it. I have a Canon powershot now which I like but there are times when I miss this, the better camera and I'll try to explain why it was more desirable.
I may try and compare this with my Canon PowerShot SD780IS.
PROS -
1) Great design, the mechanism for switching the camera on is beautiful. The LCD screen is placed most unobtrusively and also the buttons and controls were splendid.
2) Battery life was about 200 pictures before you'd need a recharge
3) The camera could sit on a desktop since the bottom was very good and the mechanism to remove the battery was also unique in it's own sense
4) **IMPORTANT DEAL MAKER FEATURE** Though a little bigger than my present Canon, the brightness in dim images is something I miss. This camera has a great ability to take warm, vibrant crisp shots in not so bright locations.
Note: If you are looking to take a picture in poor light, hold the camera steady for about 2 seconds before you hit click.
5) The quality of images overall were much less grainy than the 12.1 megapixel Canon.
6) The LCD screen is huge, the controls are amazing, not once did I ever receive a lag, the menu is more INTUITIVE and BETTER PLACED than the Canon
CONS -
The one bad thing about this camera is that while it costs a considerable sum compared to the other digital cameras, it only had an inbuilt space of 16mb. Now I understand that the Canon doesn't have any inbuilt memory but if you're going to give me a camera and include just 16mb inbuilt memory, I can't help but cry foul. The zoom could have been slightly more efficient.
As you can see, I struggled finding cons for this product and therefore strongly endorse it.
I might invest in a similar / updated model of a Sony Cybershot in the future. The SLR still seems way too big for me to carry around and I'd feel odd cause I'm not even a great snapper.
**UPDATE 08/03/2010** I found my camera, I'm soooo happy!
Don't even think of buying a sony camera (2010-05-11)
This camera ceased to function after only 6 months of usage or I should say it makes a great vibrator since that is all it does now. It was difficult to figure out how to use and I never quite learned it well but my daughter eventually figured out how to use most features. The camera is not easily connected to a computer because Sony wishes to sell you their proprietary plugs in order to make more money. The camera designs is very nice but it has its faults. The leather case needs to be unscrewed from the bottom before to can put it on its additional cradle to charge. Many people on the net have complained about these sony cameras that just start vibrating without stopping as soon as you turn it on or open the lens. Sony refuses to fix my camera even though it is less than a year old because I do not have a receipt even though they recaled the DSC-t20. The problem with the camera line is that the focus motor is defective and it will start vibrating eventually (usually after 6 months). Buy a Canon camera instead.
I deserve better... (2010-04-10)
This thing doesn't worth the money...i bought it like 2 years ago, and every time i used it i get frustrated with the pics and videos.......it hadn't had a year of use when it started to shake and ruined almost every pic i took ... next time i'll go for a cannon / nikon ...
I Love This Camera! (2009-11-02)
My daughter-in-law has the DSC T-300 so I thought I would get an even better camera by buying the more expensive upgrade Cybershot at a retail store, but I didn't like it! I returned it and had to pay a $60.00 re-stocking fee! That's ok, I knew then what I wanted... the T300! This is the one you should get too - the Cybershot Super Steady-Shot DSC T-300! It has all the features you could ever want! It is easy to use, it takes great pictures, it has lots of editing features...some are really fun. If you look around on line you can get a super deal! I only paid $235.00 for mine and I even got the warranty! The box was kind of bent but everything inside was perfect and it had a 14 day return. I am keeping it :) VERY HAPPY
