Can get better for the money (2010-08-31)
I got this as a gift, and although I've been using it for more than a year, I still don't like it. The delay on it is horrendous -- I know that for a point-and-shoot camera there will always be a delay, but this is the longest one I've ever encountered. And it doesn't matter how the settings are adusted -- it's always a few seconds delay, which means 75% of the time I miss whatever it was I was trying to capture in a picture. Also, this camera has no option at all for a time/date stamp. When I called Sony and asked about this, the gentleman I spoke with said they took it away because their customers don't like that feature. Well, I do. I don't think it would have been at all difficult for them to add that function with the option to hide it if it's not wanted, like most cameras, even cheap ones, do. Finally, picture quality. Almost half the time the pictures are just slightly blurry. Not too noticeable at a quick glance, but if you are looking longer or trying to edit the pictures for any reason, it becomes evident. Although Sony usually has good products, I would not recommend this one. I keep hoping it will break so I have an excuse to get a new one that I like better!

Possible fix for the black screen after the lens quits... (2010-07-07)
I loved my Sony until just over a year into it when the thing kicked it. My sister in law had the same problem with hers and it seems many others have had this problem. The lens goes in and out and in and out and then you get a black screen on the lcd that says "turn power off" or some such thing....and you're done.
You can call customer support who will give you stupid solutions and then refer you to customer service who might blow you off...like they did me...or you can do what my dad did.
He blew 90lbs of air pressure from the air compressor at the lens while he repeatedly turned it on and off....after several runs it finally started working again.
I figured I'd throw this out there..if you are desperate like I was (wasn't sending in the thing for $130 to have it looked at) then it's worth a shot.
Good luck!

Decent Camera but too Fragile (2010-07-03)
The Sony DSC-W150 is a point and shoot digital camera with a lot of features and mostly takes good pictures. It has a great zoom function and it is easy to get mostly good shots, especially in good lighting. There are times, however, that it takes grainy shots and I find it very hit or miss at night. Sometimes the flash works well and other times you get dark or grainy pictures.

The main problem with this camera, however, is it is way too fragile. Even a light bump has made the shutter get stuck several times. And it fell once and broke. It didn't fall hard mind you, and shoot and click cameras are going to get some wear and tear.

For the price and drawbacks, I would not recommend this camera.

Sony Cybershot DSCW150 (2010-05-23)
I purchased this camera to replace an identical one that I broke while on a trip. This is the last ultra compact camera made with an optical viewfinder and that is why I purchased it. In addition to the optical viewfinder it has a 5X optical telephoto lens and all the other bells and whistles needed to take pictures in varying light, etc. I had the same camera for 3 years before breaking it and found it an outstanding value. Most important, however, is the optical view finder which is much easier and more satsifying to use than the screen viewfinders. The only downside of this camera is that the image stabilization is not quite as good as the newer units; however, that is not a major drawback in taking still pictures. Battery life is fairly good and the provided battery charger is small enough that it is not a burden to take on a trip.

All-in-all, a thouroughly worthwhile camera at an excellent price.

This an average plus camera...Does ok but nothing great like a Canon (2010-02-21)
Sony does everything great except camera shots....I will say to leave it to the big boys like Canon or Nikon....This camera is good but not great...I will comparae it to a low calorie beer which is water down and less tasteful....Get the non calorie beer, trust me.
